Menaela vs Cliniko
Choose Cliniko when you want a proven, straightforward allied-health PMS, transparent per-practitioner pricing and the option to add specialist AI receptionist tools. Choose Menaela when you prefer the AI secretary and underlying PMS to be one coherent product rather than assembling the operating workflow across vendors. Cliniko absolutely supports AI receptionist integrations; they are generally third-party products.
Choose Menaela when
You want one assistant using shared patient, appointment and communication context through the same platform.
Choose Cliniko when
You already use Cliniko or prefer its familiar allied-health workflows and the flexibility of choosing separate AI voice/SMS vendors.
This is not AI versus no AI. Cliniko has connected apps including AI phone receptionists that can book, cancel or reschedule appointments. The real comparison is one operational system versus a composed stack.

What the feature table does not tell you
- For a clinic happy with Cliniko, adding a connected receptionist may avoid disruptive migration. The tradeoff is multiple vendor contracts, support boundaries and context synchronization—details to validate for the specific integration.
- Menaela’s argument is not that integrations cannot work. It is that a single system makes continuity between patient message, schedule, record and staff request a primary design objective.
The operational test
Ask each vendor to demonstrate the same real situation: a patient requests a time, changes the provider, books, then returns to the conversation days later to reschedule. Ask whether the system itself completes each step, whether staff must intervene, which channels are supported and what happens on failure. This is a recommended evaluation scenario, not a claim that we independently tested the competitor.
Where Menaela is not the better fit
For clinics dependent on established US payer contracts, claims processing or patient phone answering, Menaela is not currently a like-for-like replacement. Evaluate the competitor’s relevant mature workflows first.
