SimplePractice Alternatives

Which option should you choose?

If you need US behavioral-health insurance billing, compare TherapyNotes and SimplePractice first. If you want a different scheduling and clinical workflow, evaluate Jane, Practice Better or Healthie. If your main challenge is receptionist work rather than clinical charting, consider Menaela’s AI-secretary approach—but its US claims infrastructure is not a substitute for an insurance-focused EHR.

Decide whether you need software or a secretary

A calendar with online self-booking can be an excellent solution. It does not necessarily mean the software will independently answer a patient who asks about services, changes their mind or requires staff attention. Ask each provider who completes that work: the patient, staff, a human receptionist, an attached AI service, or the core application itself.

When Menaela makes sense

Menaela combines an AI secretary and practice-management system. On supported channels it can handle incoming patient conversations, search real appointment availability and complete permitted clinic operations. It is particularly relevant for small self-pay practices prioritizing reduction of routine front-desk work. External phone calls and US insurance claims remain limits to evaluate.

When another option makes sense

Choose a mature specialty EHR for insurance billing or specialty-specific charting you cannot replace; keep an existing PMS when migration cost outweighs new capabilities; choose a human receptionist service when immediate live telephone coverage is essential.

Questions to ask before purchasing

  • Can the software book and reschedule from a free-form patient conversation?
  • Does it remember an existing conversation with the correct patient identity?
  • Does staff need to approve every routine appointment request?
  • Is reception included natively, provided by humans, or supplied by a separately priced integration?
  • Are billing, payments and clinical documentation suitable for your jurisdiction and specialty?
